Who is behind AmWager
AmWest Entertainment runs the platform from Prospect, a Louisville suburb in Kentucky, and has operated since 2009. Unlike TwinSpires, part of Churchill Downs, it has no racetrack in the family. The company presents AmWager as built by horseplayers, and the product reflects that: dense screens, fast pool updates and tools aimed at people who play multi-race and exotic tickets.
Customer balances sit in separate FDIC-insured custodial accounts monitored by the Oregon Racing Commission, and money leaves them only through wagers, withdrawals or purchases the player authorises. The company describes itself as US owned and operated, and its regulatory page names each racing commission it reports to, with license numbers where a state issues them.
AmWager legal states and licenses
Oregon issues the primary license as a multi-jurisdictional provider, letting AmWager operate in states that do not license online pari-mutuel wagering themselves. Thirteen states license it directly: California, Colorado, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Montana, New York, North Dakota, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Wyoming. Outside its legal states, New Jersey, Nevada and North Carolina among them, accounts are restricted.
West Virginia’s Racing Commission lists the account under license ADW-2022-05, and the state appears as available with no product restriction. The West Virginia guide shows the other racing apps in the state and any excluded tracks, while New Jersey and Michigan sit outside this account’s map and cannot open an account with it.
Age works differently here than at most competitors. State law sets 18 in West Virginia, but AmWager’s own house rule requires every account holder to be 21 or older, wherever they live. Identity checks run before any funding, and some states carry track exclusions, such as Ohio residents being barred from the Thistledown racino.
Tracks and the tools in an AmWager review
The menu runs past 490 tracks of thoroughbred, standardbred, quarter horse and greyhound racing, plus racing from overseas. Live streams of thoroughbred, harness and greyhound racing are free for every member every day, and replays cover nearly all historical races. Results for every track post in real time, with a historical archive behind them.
The tools are the reason serious players open an account. ABC wagering, modelled on Steven Crist’s book Exotic Betting, builds tiered tickets quickly. Conditional wagering fires a bet only if the odds meet a target, a Dutch calculator spreads a stake across several runners, and a fair value exacta grid compares exacta prices against the win pool.
Larger players can upload wagers by file or queue bets to fire later, and TRU Odds sits in the AmWager Edge suite. The company claims pool and odds updates up to 60 times faster than rivals. There is no App Store download; the platform runs in the browser on any device.
AmWager rewards tiers and 0% takeout days
Every account joins AmWager Rewards automatically. Six tiers set the earning rate by average monthly play: four points per dollar from the first bet, five from $1,000, six from $2,500, eight from $5,000, and from $10,000 a split rate that favours exotic wagers. At the top, $20,000 a month, win, place and show bets earn 15 points and exotics 20.
Points turn into wagering credit automatically each morning at 1,600 points per dollar, and unused credit expires after 30 days. Accounts opened before 2023 stay on older rates unless the holder asks to switch, and Idaho residents are excluded from rewards and promotions because of that state’s source market fees. High-volume players get a concierge contact.
The 0% takeout promotions are the other recurring offer. On selected cards, a winning win bet is topped up to the price it would have paid without takeout, capped at $100 a day. October 2026 ran them on three Belmont Park Wednesdays, the Breeders’ Crown and the Breeders’ Cup. New accounts get a first-deposit match.
Deposits, payouts and limits
Funding runs through ACH bank transfers, bank cards and wires, though some states ban particular methods. Where AmWager charges a convenience fee it is $5 per deposit, shown before approval, and a returned deposit costs $25. Payouts go by ACH, card, check or wire; a wire under $5,000 costs $25, and expedited check handling is an optional $50.
Under My Account, a Responsible Gaming section holds deposit, loss and time limits, a time-out, self-exclusion and permanent closure, and the National Problem Gambling Helpline answers on 1-800-522-4700. Player support answers on 1-877-767-4447 from noon to 8 p.m. Eastern daily. Readers comparing ownership models can set this review beside the TwinSpires review, a racetrack-owned account.
Where an AmWager bet goes
The account sets nothing about the price. Each ticket is commingled into the host track’s pari-mutuel pool, pays full track prices once the result is official, with no cap on winnings per wager. The host track keeps its takeout, which is why a 0% takeout day has to be funded by the operator.
For West Virginia players, the most local pools belong to two racinos. Charles Town races thoroughbreds most of the year, with 165 dates approved for 2026, and Mountaineer runs a spring-to-autumn meet with casino floors beside both ovals. The horse racing schedule lists which tracks with gaming floors race live each week.
